You may have studied many sacred texts and listened to many discourses. You may also have had the darshan of holy and pious souls. What is the use? Due to the effect of unsacred food and bad company, all your good thoughts are subdued. Good thoughts can express themselves only when you get rid of bad thoughts. Each one of you must make conscious efforts to dispel bad thoughts. Like you open the door of your home only to your family members and friends, and not to stray dogs, you must not permit wicked feelings and wicked thoughts to enter your mind. Today is auspicious Vijayadashami. This is the conclusion (samapti) of the sacred Navaratri festival. Samapti is that which confers deservedness (prapti) in every possible way. Embodiments of Love! On this sacred and holy occasion I desire that each one of you takes an oath to discover and give up all vices you know are present within you!
