Thought for the Day

The mind has become fickle as we have been feeding it with worldly tendencies. How can we stabilise it? Give such work that will keep the mind ever-busy, then it will not trouble us! It is the nature of the monkey to keep climbing up and down, and so people who catch monkeys, take it from house to house and make it climb up and down a pole; this way they keep the monkey busy and also earn alms for themselves. Our mind is also a mad monkey, isn’t it? And monkeys must be engaged in an absorbing work to keep it away from its fickleness! So, first and foremost, sit still and give the monkey mind the duty of a watchman. The monkey mind so entrusted, will watch the breath going in - ‘So’ and the breath coming out - ‘ham’ and it will be kept busy. After five minutes of this exercise, your mind will calm down.

I would like to tell you something about the attitude you must cultivate when you volunteer. I Myself have selected you for this role and that itself is a rare privilege. There are so many among the thousands who are pleading with all their heart to be given the chance; but you alone have been picked. I must tell you that volunteering is not just a momentary spurt; it cannot be done well without deep discipline, long training and humility. You must develop prema (love) for all. Do not think that a volunteer is a superior person, more devoted than the rest; do not look down upon the rest as disturbances and nuisances. When you treat any one harshly, you are treating Me harshly. When you are insulting any one, you are insulting Me. If you have love for Me, have prema towards all, since Sai is in every one.

Thought for the Day

God is not separate from you. Do not be under the impression that God is present only in temples. Body is the temple and the indweller is God (Deho Devalaya Prokto Jeevo Deva Sanathanaha). So you do not need to go in search of God elsewhere. Turn your vision inward. Then you will find God, who is the embodiment of bliss. You are getting drowned in illusion on account of excessive attachment to the body. Get rid of body attachment and develop attachment towards God. Then you will become God yourself. God and human beings are not separate from each other. They are like image and reflection. God is in everybody. This temple of the body is able to move around because God is within. Scriptures reveal - Satyam Jnanam Anantam Brahma (Divinity is Truth, wisdom and infinity). You must tread along the path of truth and wisdom in order to understand and experience the Divine principle (Brahman).
