Virtuous living, beneficial thoughts, elevating ideals and righteous conduct can confer not only good health, but what is even more precious, Aatmaananda, the ecstatic Awareness of the Reality itself. When one yearns for the happiness and prosperity of all mankind, he or she is blessed with the wisdom and strength to mark out the way and lead them towards it. The person sees one’s chosen God in everyone. Every act of theirs will be as pure, as sincere and as sacred as an offering to God. A very effective way to conquer all sources of physical and mental disease and debility is awareness of one's Divine (Aatmic) Reality. That will bring about an upsurge of Love and Light, for, when one recognises that he or she is the Atma, one would cognize the same Atma in all, and share in the joy and grief, strength and weakness of all.

As a pilgrim, you are helped or handicapped by the antics of the mind. The mind has as its warp and woof, desire or thirst for something or the other, getting some gain or avoiding some loss. Desire arises from attachment, which is a consequence of delusion. Desire distorts and denigrates the mind, and keeps it incessantly agitated. No sheet of water can be calm when stones drop on it, and if there is a perpetual shower of desires, it will be pitifully restless. The bliss which emanates from the Soul (Atma) must be stored leveraging the reservoir of your mind (Buddhi). But, if the reservoir has many cracks and crevices (senses), bliss (Aananda) will be frittered away rendering the reservoir of mind dry. When the hunger of the senses is sought to be appeased, your mind becomes vacillating and wayward. Your mind’s legitimate role is to be the ma ster of your senses, which are its servants.

In the Ramayana story, Queen Kaikeyi yields to the selfish wiles of her maid and as a consequence, her lord King Dasaratha lost his life. Rama who she regarded as her very life-breath was exiled into the forest, and Bharatha her son, disowned her for the very same act! She drew on herself the condemnation from all the people in the Kingdom of Ayodhya. The story is an allegory. Dasaratha is the human body with the five senses of perception and the five senses of action - the ten chariots or Dasha-ratha. He wedded the Queen, the Mind, and the mind yielded to the servant and caused the downfall. This clearly teaches us the legitimate role of the mind as the master of one’s senses. If the master serves the servants, then, he or she loses their self-respect and falls in the esteem of all.

Co-operation among individuals grouped as a society guarantees security and stability. It is called, Shri Rama Raksha (protection), the mark of Divine Grace. The surest sign of awareness of one’s Divine Nature is the recognition of the bond of kinship with other beings. This bond has now snapped, and as a result, life has been rendered meaningless. The evil spirits of greed and pride, of envy and hatred, are executing their demonic dance in the hearts of man. People are not able to appreciate the value of the air they breathe, of the Sun's rays that illumine the world, the drops of rain that sustain life, and the subtle power that underlies every object in Nature. They have become low-minded people, dedicating their lives to meaningless pursuits. What needs to be done today is to foster people who are determined to stand and even suffer to realise the holy goals of peace and prosperity for the entire world.

What manifests externally is called ‘Manas’ (Mind). That which is internal is ‘Nama’ (The Name of the Lord). Repeating the Name of the Lord, you can gain control over your mind and attain the state where there is no Mind (Amanaska). As long as you are under the influence of your mind, you will tread the worldly path and get lost. You can clearly hear the voice of the Lord, only when you attain the 'No Mind' State. To attain that state, you must listen to the inner voice, the voice of the Lord within you. To hear Him, you must practice Devotion and Surrender. The easiest way to understand and experience God is to Love Him. You can easily grow in love for God, by worshipping Him in a specific form. A true devotee does all duties with total surrender only to please God, and dedicates every action to please Him.

Health is the greatest blessing. Without it, you cannot do even the smallest work. Health is indispensable for your progress in material, moral, political, economic, artistic and spiritual fields. Food habits are of primary importance if health must be secured and maintained. 'No restraint, no success' is the axiom. Among the 8.4 million species of living beings, all except humans live on food as provided by Mother Nature. Human beings alone strive to make such food more palatable, more attractive to the senses of sight, touch and smell by boiling, frying, freezing and mixing, grinding and soaking. Natural Food is really beneficial. Catering to the cravings of the tongue, if you intake heavy food thrice or more a day, you will fall ill and lose the sprightliness of youth. Restraints, controls and limits must be applied to the tongue. Regular and limited intake alone will enable you to discharge your duties.

Understand the Nature of the Divine Soul (Atma), which gives sustenance to all the senses. The five senses originate from Ether, which emerges from the Atma. Hence, if you understand the Atma, it is highly likely that your senses will be under your control. Then you will always be happy. Know that happiness is beyond comfort and sorrow. Comfort and sorrow are just the manifestations of the human mind. The state which is beyond this pleasure and grief is truly happiness. You can realize this state when you listen to the voice within you. God is present within you and He truly speaks to you from within. To experience that inner voice, you must silence your mind. You must control the activity of the external senses. When the inner and outer organs are completely controlled, you will clearly hear the Lord, speaking to you, from within.

If you are established in peace, you will find that Love arises from it. Peace and love are intimately related. Many pretend as if they love all. Their actions represent how dramatic one can get in the field of love. This is not true love. True love finds fulfilment only when it is with peace. Once you develop true love, Non-violence will naturally manifest from within and you will not hurt or harm anyone. Love is present everywhere, in every being in this world. Love is beyond a specific name, form or action. Love is God, Live in Love. This is taught to you by Educare. The process of education inculcates desire, hatred, jealousy, lust, greed and avarice, which are worldly traits or behavioural tendencies. Educare on the other hand, consists of adherence to Truth, Non-Violence, Love, Peace and Righteousness - qualities that are present within you.

Mind is present inside the body amidst the five sheaths (Pancha Koshas). The five sheaths are gross body sheath (Annamaya Kosha), Pranamaya Kosha (pertaining to the life force), Manomaya Kosha (mind sheath), Vijnanamaya Kosha (intellect sheath), andAnandamaya Kosha (Bliss sheath). Above the mind sheath is Prana(life force) and below it is discrimination power. Both of these are related to Fire. Mind is related to Water. The Moon is the presiding deity for the Mind. Hence coolness is its nature. Because of the presence of life force above and discrimination power below, the Mind melts and gets transformed into water. Water’s nature is to flow towards a lower level. It does not have the nature of flowing upwards. Hence the mind always wanders around the se nsory and worldly pleasures. It cannot voyage towards the pure and higher stages. To divert the mind towards higher realms, spirituality is of utmost necessity.

Truth is not merely describing what you have seen, expressing as is what you have heard or sharing honestly what you have experienced. Truth is beyond all this. It is a deep inner feeling and it must come from within. Truth must originate from your heart. Truth is permanent; it does not change with the passage of time. When you rely on Truth (Satya), Righteousness (Dharma) arises out of it. It is Truth that teaches how one should conduct oneself and perform one’s duties. Righteousness is a reflection of Truth. You will experience peace when Sathya and Dharma co-exist. This is indeed peace, Shanti. It is foolishness to think that Peace exists elsewhere and is separate from you. If you separate truth and righteousness, you will find only pieces, on the other hand if you blend them you will experience Peace always.

Lord Krishna said, “Don’t conduct yourself like a beast, not even like a human being. Know that you are the spark of the Divine. You are ancient, eternal and essentially Divine. Mamaivamsho Jeeva Loke Jeeva Bhoota Sanatanaha.” Being the sparks of Divine, you must have the sacred qualities of Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Nonviolence. Instead of behaving in accordance with these noble virtues, people submit themselves to evil qualities like lust, greed, anger, jealousy, hatred and avarice which does not befit a human being. These changes are due to one’s food habits and behavior. The food you take and the water you drink must be pure, and timely. Lead a well regulated human life and realise the Divine within you.

Devotion these days appears more as a way of spending one's time rather than as the royal road to the eternal mansion of the Divine. You need not make much effort to grow grass. But to raise a useful crop you have to labour hard. Likewise, it is no great achievement to experience the trivial and transient pleasures of mundane existence; it is like growing grass. You must strive to cultivate the nectarous and lasting bliss of divine Love. Those who aspire for such love are not easy to find. All appear as devotees. But the one who has experienced the Divine Principle will not go after sensuous pleasures.

There is no harm in pursuing one's worldly duties while having Self-realisation as the goal of life. Life is not meant for just living, it is a means to realize one’s true nature. Treating life as a righteous journey, you should devote at least a few minutes every day to thoughts on the true aims of life. Many hours in a day are wasted on selfish pursuits, but not even a few minutes are devoted to contemplation of God. Alas! What misfortune is this! In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna called upon Arjuna to regard himself as an instrument of the Divine. All of you are instruments of the Divine. Discharge your duties leaving the result to God. Your role is to do your duty sincerely. Victory and defeat are in God’s hands. Do not even feel that you are the doer. You must think the Lord is giving me this opportunity and making me play this role in life.

Never forsake your parents till your last breath. Even if they didn’t provide for all you asked and wished, you must love them. Your mother has undergone many hardships for your sake. She nourished you in many ways. Forgetting or ignoring your mother is the worst of sins. Father has worked hard to take care of you and raise you. Never make your parents feel distant from you. Love and respect them at all times. You must satisfy the needs of your parents, using the education they gave you. Their satisfaction will give you infinite joy. Do not believe your friends to be your everything – as long as you have money in your pocket, they are your friends. When you are penniless, most of them will bid goodbye.

Wherefrom does humanness come? It comes from your heart. Here, the heart referred to is not the physical heart but the spiritual heart which is free from all blemishes. Like fragrant air, your purity should spread everywhere. You should share with others the pure thoughts and the pure feelings that emanate from you. Whatever you do, it should be helpful to others. Help Ever, Hurt Never - If you imbibe these two qualities, everything will become good for you. Today educated people are proud of their Ph.D. degrees. What does the true Ph.D. mean? The letter ‘P’ stands for Person, ‘h’ for Help and ‘D’ for Divinity. Hence, one with Ph.D. degree is the person who helps others and attains Divinity. On the contrary, if one does not help others, then the letter ‘p’ will denote that he is a papi (sinner). You will atta in everything if you protect your humanness.

Today people tend to go by the letter of the scriptures. The words of the scriptures should be interpreted and understood in the context of the prevailing time and circumstances. Then their real meaning will be clear. Also no one adheres to what one says or preaches. More than listening to spiritual discourses, one must try to practise at least a part of what one learns. Vedanta is being expounded at many places, not to speak of the discourses on the Gita. But how many understand the real spirit of the Gita and act up to its message? It is because of this dichotomy between preaching and practice that spiritual teachings are being treated with little regard. Only when the feelings emanating from the heart, the words coming out of the mouth and the actions one performs are all in perfect harmony will one's life be based on truth.

There are many educated youth with multiple degrees. How do they put them to use? To earn money! Money does matter a lot in the present times. You need money even to go to the temple, to drink a cup of coffee or a bottle of water. However you must develop more humanness rather than just running after money. We are responsible for all problems around us. If you shape yourself into a good person and practice what you have learnt, the world would be a different place. Do not lead your lives with arrogance, pride and other wicked qualities. Instead, live your life with a sense of humility and obedience. You become pure, only when you get rid of your wicked qualities. To remove the pollution around you, you must have a pure mind. A pure mind is one that is without any doubts, selfless and steady. Only a pure mind can uphold the honour of a Nation.

Discipline trains you to put up with disappointment; every rose has its thorn.

People who take a pledge to observe certain disciplines in all times, fail to do so when the circumstances are not congenial. One day all the deers in the forest held a conference. They discussed thus: “Do dogs possess the abilities we have?” One of them bravely said, “If we kick a dog appropriately, it can be disembowelled; we have that power!” Another deer added, “Dogs cannot run at speeds we can. We can even leap in the air.” The third said, “Exactly! Dogs can’t run as fast as us and we are stronger and more capable. From now on, we should not be afraid of dogs. We must face them with all our strength and fight back”. Having thus decided, they all clapped merrily. Hearing this noise, a dog in a distance howled loudly. No sooner did the deers hear the sound, all of them, without any exception, fled the place . The behaviour of those who preach Vedanta these days is very much on a par with these deers.

Cultivate the five values of Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Nonviolence (Sathya, Dharma, Shanti, Prema andAhimsa). When you have Sathya and Dharma, you will automatically get peace (Shanti). When you are peaceful, you will not hurt or hate anybody (Ahimsa). This peaceful attitude blossoms into love and brings about equality in every being. When such a loving environment prevails, there will be no quarrels in the world. Therefore, truth and righteousness are essential to attain and grow in love. In any situation, come what may, never take the path of untruth. If you speak untruth, there is no love. Speak the truth at all times, attain love and feel it everywhere around you. This is the essence of the scriptures, taught by many sages and saints in various methods. God is Love.

God is beyond all qualities. He is blemishless, steady and selfless (Nirmalam, Nischalam and Niswartham). He is beyond time and space. Don’t try to confine God to just one form. Install the principle that God is the Divine Soul (Atma) present within you and contemplate on Him. In every step, everything you see, God is present. God is the current that makes fans work; God is the mike that absorbs the sound, and the speakers that help others listen. If you put off the main switch, all the lights will go out. When you forget Divinity, you forget everything. Love God deeply, from within. Love God and you will be able to conquer the demons of bad qualities and also develop the society. Only a person with character can bring development in society. Only the one with love for God can lead a life of morality. Morality is truly a life principle. Without morality y there is no community.

ஸ்ரீ சத்ய சாயி நாராயணனுக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த சேவை – நாராயண சேவை (தேவையுள்ளோர்க்கு உணவளித்தல்). மதுரையில் நாராயண சேவை என்று சொன்னாலே நம் நினைவுக்கு வருபவர்கள், திருமதி வசுந்தரா கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி சாயிராமும், தெய்வத்திரு. S.கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி சாயிராம் அவர்களும்தான். 1992ல் மதுரை சென்ட்ரல் சமிதியின் உறுப்பினர்களான இருவரும், மதுரை கிழக்கு சமிதி தொடங்கியவுடன், அச் சமிதியின் ஒரு பஜன் யூனிட்டின் தாலைமை ஏற்று 22 ஆண்டுகள் நாராயண சேவையை ஒருவாரம் கூட விடாமல் செய்து வருகின்றனர். திரு. கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி சாயிராமின் அறுவை சிகிச்சையின் போதும், அவர் பகவானின் திருவடி சேர்ந்த போதும் இச்சேவை தொடர்ந்து நடந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. திருமதி வசுந்தரா கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தியிடம் நாம் கலந்துரையாடினோம்.
நாம்: சாயிராம், நீங்கள் நடத்தி வரும் தொடர் நாராயண சேவைக்கு எங்கள் மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: சாயிராம், நன்றி.
நாம்: நீங்கள் எவ்வாறு, எப்போது நாராயண செய்யத் தொடங்கினீர்கள்?
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: 1992ல் நாங்கள் சென்ட்ரல் சமிதியில் (அப்போது மதுரையில் ஒரே சமிதிதான்) உறுப்பினராக இருந்தோம். கலங்கவைக்கும் கடன் தொல்லை, வட்டி கட்டவே வருமானம் சரியாக இருந்தது. தவித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த நான், சென்ட்ரல் சமிதியைச் சேர்ந்த சாயிராம் கண்ணன் கொடுத்த திரு. ரா, கணபதி எழுதிய ‘அற்புதம் அறுபது’ என்ற புத்தகத்தை படித்தேன். 60 பேருக்கு 60 விதமான அற்புதங்கள் நடத்திய நிகழ்ச்சிகளைப் படித்துக் கண்ணீர் விட்டேன். எனக்கு நீங்கள் என்ன அற்புதம் சேய்யப் போகிறீர்கள் என்று நினைத்துக் கொண்டு புத்தகத்தைப் படித்த போது என் கண்ணில் பட்ட வரிகள்,
“நீ சமுதாயத்திற்கு என்ன பணி செய்யப் போகிறாய் என்று உறுதி கூறு. இது அரசியல் வாதியின் வாக்குறுதியல்ல. அறுதியும் இறுதியும், உறுதியுமாகக் கூறு. சமுதாயத்திற்கு நான் செய்ய என்ன இருக்கிறது, அது தன்னைத் தானே பார்த்துக் கொள்ளும் எனக் கூறாதே. இந்த சமுதாயம்தான் உன்னை வளர்த்து ஆளாக்கியது. இந்தப் பணி செய்கிறேன் என்று சுவாமிக்கு உறுதி கூறினால், சுவாமியும் இந்த நிமிடத்திலிருந்து உனக்கு பொறுப்பாளராக (caretaker) மாறுவேன் என்று பூமியிலடித்துச் சத்தியம் செய்கிறேன்”
மறக்க முடியாத அந்த செய்தியைப் பார்த்தவுடன் நான் நாராயண சேவை செய்கிறேன் என்று உறுதி எடுத்துக் கொண்டேன்.
நாம்: சாயி சமுதாய பணிகள் பலவகை. பஜனை, பால விகாஸ், பூஜைகள் என்று பல சேவைகள் இருக்க நாராயண சேவை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று ஏன் உங்களுக்குத் தோன்றியது?
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: மனிதன் திருப்தியடைவது உணவில்தானே. அதுமட்டுமல்ல, நான் மிக நன்றாக, சிக்கனமாக, தூய்மையாகச் சமைப்பதில் வல்லவள். எனது கல்வி தகுது, உடல் தகுதி இவற்றையெல்லாம் நினைக்கும் போது நாராயண சேவையே நமக்கு ஏற்ற சேவை என்று நினைத்தேன். அந்தப் புத்தகத்தை கையில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு, “சுவாமி, இந்தப் புத்தகத்தின் மூலமாக நான் உறுதி கூறுகிறேன். வயதானாலும், உடல் நலம் குன்றினாலும், இறுதி மூச்சு விடும் காலம் வரை, நாராயண சேவை செய்யும் இடத்தில் இருந்தாவது, விடாமல் நாராயண சேவை செய்து வருவேன்” என்று உறுதி கூறினேன். ஆனால் இதற்குத் தேவையான நிதியுதவியை நீங்கள்தான் தர வேண்டும் என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டேன்.
நாம்: இதை உங்கள் கணவரிடம் கூறியபோது அவரது பதில் என்ன?
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: “நீ நல்லது செய்ய வேண்டும் என உறுதி எடுத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாய். கண்டிப்பாக நான் உயிர் விடும்வரை உனக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருப்பேன். ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமையன்று நாராயண சேவை செய்யலாம்” என்று ஊக்குவித்தார். அவர் பகவானின் காலடியில் சேர்ந்த மார்ச் 31ந் தேதி ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை. நாராயண சேவை தயார் என்ற செய்தியைக் கேட்டப் பிறகே தன் இறுதி மூச்சை விட்டு இறைவனடி சேர்ந்தார்.
நாம்: உங்களது முதல் நாராயண சேவையைப் பற்றிக் கூருங்கள்.
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: சுவாமியிடம் பிரதிக்ஞை செய்து 2 மாதத்திற்குப் பிறகு கையில் இருந்த 90 ரூபாயை வைத்து,சாதம், சம்பார், உருளைக்கிழங்கு பொரியல் தயார் செய்து, 4 தூக்கில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு, பஸ்ஸில் பைகாரா, முத்துராமலிங்கபுரம் பாரதி இல்லத்திற்கு சென்றோம். நாங்கள் சென்று சேர்வதற்குள் உணவு இடைவேளை முடிந்துவிட்டது. பொறுப்பாளரிடம், தயவுசெய்து ஒரு தட்டு கொடுங்கள், கேட்கும் குழந்தைகளுக்கு ஊட்டிவிடுகிறேன் என்று கூறி தட்டில் உணவைப் பிசைந்து உருண்டைகளாக்கி குழந்தைகளைக் கூப்பிட்டேன். வாராத் தலையும், ஒழுகிய மூக்கும், கிழிந்த உடையுடன் ஓடிவந்து குழந்தைகள், வாயை சுற்றிக் கொண்டிருந்த ஈக்களை விரட்டி விட்டு “இது என்ன காய்? அது என்ன சாதம்?” என்று கேட்டு ஆசை ஆசையாக சாப்பிட்ட போது, உன்னை விடத் துன்பப்படுபவர் உலகில் எத்தனையோ பேர், அவர்களுக்குத் தொண்டு செய்வது உன் கடமை என்று பகவான் சொல்லாமல் சொல்வது தெரிந்தது. இனி எந்த பொருளானாலும் ஒரு துளி கூட வீணாக்கக் கூடாது என்று நினைத்து பஸ்ஸில் திரும்பும் போது “நான் உனக்கு Caretaker ஆக இருப்பேன்” என்று பகவான் கூறியதை நிரூபித்துக் காட்டினார்.
நாம்: முதல் சேவையிலேயே இத்தனை அனுபவமா? அதையும் கூறுங்கள்.
திருமதி. வசுந்தரா: நாராயண சேவைக்கு, இருந்த பணத்தை செலவழித்து விட்டதால், கையில் பஸ்ஸில் சென்றுவர போதுமான 8 ரூபாய் மட்டுமே இருந்தது. திரும்பி போகும் போது ஆளுக்கு ரூ. 2/- டிக்கெட் என ரூ. 4/- மட்டுமே இருந்தது. வந்த ஒரு பஸ்ஸில் ஏறி உட்கார்ந்தவுடன் கண்டக்டர், இது சேதுபதி ஹைஸ்கூல் செல்லாது, பணிமனை தான் செல்லும் என்று கூறி, ஒரு டிக்கெட்டுக்கு ரூ. 3/- தாருங்கள் என்று கேட்டார். சரிதான், கையில் இருக்கும் காசுக்கு செல்லக் கூடிய தூரம்வரை சென்று அங்கிருந்து வீடுவரை நடக்க வேண்டியது தான் என்று நினைக்கையில், எங்கள் கையில் இருந்த தூக்கைப் பார்த்த கண்டக்டர், “நீங்கள் இல்லத்தில் உள்ள குழந்தைகளுக்கு உணவு கொடுத்து விட்டு வருகிறீர்களா? பரவாயில்லை அடுத்த Stopல் இறங்கி வேறு பஸ் பிடித்து செல்லுங்கள்” என்று கூறி எங்களிடம் டிக்கெட் வாங்காமல் அடுத்த Stopல் இறக்கிவிட்டார். வேறு பஸ் பிடித்து ஆளுக்கு ரூ. 1/- டிக்கெட் வாங்கி, இறங்கிய பின் ஆளுக்கு ஒரு ஜூஸ் வாங்கி குடித்து, களைப்புத் தீர்ந்து வீட்டுக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தோம். உண்மையில் சுவாமி எங்கள் Caretaker ஆகி விட்டார்.
நாம்: நாம் அவரை நோக்கி ஓரடி வைத்தால் அவர் நம்மை நோக்கி 100 அடிகள் வைப்பார் அல்லவா?
நாராயண சேவைக்கு மற்றவர்கள் எவ்வாறு உதவினர்?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: அதுவும் சுவாமி நடத்திய லீலைதான். என் கணவரின் அலுவலகத் தோழர்கள், மற்ற நண்பர்கள் எங்கள் வீட்டுக்கு வரும் போது நாங்கள் செய்யும் சேவையை பார்த்தார்கள், அதில் ஈரோட்டில் இருந்து வந்த அன்பர் ஒருவர் இப்படி 5 பாத்திரத்தில் ஏன் சாதம் வடிக்கிறீர்கள் என்று கூறி, 2 படி பிடிக்கும் பெரிய பாத்திரம் வாங்கித் தந்தார். நாங்கள் வாய் திறந்து எதுவும் கேட்க மாட்டோம், இருப்பினும் பாத்திரமாகவும், பண்டமாகவும் பலர் உதவி செய்தனர். இன்று 38 படி ஒரே நேரத்தில் சமைக்கக் கூடிய பாத்திரம் வந்து விட்டது. காஸ் ஸ்டவ், தண்ணீர் சுத்திகரிக்கும் மெஷின் என்று பலர் கொடுத்து உதவினர்.
நாம்: பணமாக உதவி செய்ய முன் வந்தார்களா?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: உதவினர். முதன் முதலில் புதூர் பத்மா சாயிராம், “எனக்கு வேலை கிடைக்க வேண்டும் என்று சுவாமியிடம் பிரார்தனை செய்தேன். வேலை கிடைத்துவிட்டது. அதனால் என் முதல் மாத சம்பளம் 4000 ரூபாயை நான் நாராயண சேவைக்கு தருகிறேன்” என மனமுவந்து கொடுத்தார். என் கணவர் திரு. கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி சரியாக வரவு செலவு கணக்குகளைப் பார்ப்பது பலருக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி தந்தது. சாயி நிறுவன உறுப்பினர்கள், எங்கள் நண்பர்கள், அன்பர்கள் தருகின்றனர். பலர் மாதாமாதமும், சிலர் தீபாவளி, பொங்கல் போன்ற பண்டிகைகளுக்கும் தருவார்கள். சிலர் அவர்களின் திருமண நாள், பிறந்த நாளுக்குத் தருகின்றனர்.
நாம்: எப்போதாவது உங்களுக்கு பணத்தட்டுபாடோ, பொருள் தட்டுப்பாடோ வந்திருகிறதா?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: பகவானிருக்க தடைகள் ஓடிவிடுமல்லவா? பணத்தட்டுபாடோ, பொருள் தட்டுப்பாடோ வரும் சமயத்தில், பகவானின் அருள் தட்டுப்பாடின்றி வந்து விடும். ஒரு வாரம் கையில் ரூ. 600/- தான் இருந்தது. காய்கறிக்குக் கூட காணாது என்று கவலைப்பட்ட போது, பக்கத்து வீட்டுகாரரின் தங்கை, நான் நாராயண சேவைக்கு பணம் சேர்த்து வைத்திருக்கிறேன் என்று ரூ. 3000/- கொடுத்தார். ஒருமுறை அரிசி தட்டுப்பாடாக இருந்த போது, கொடைகானல் விஜயம் முடித்து சுவாமி புறப்பட்டுவிடார். அப்போது மீதமிருந்த 2 சிப்பம் அரிசி நாராயண சேவைக்கென இங்கு வழங்கப்பட்டது. சுவாமியின் பிரசாதமான அந்த அரிசி (அக்ஷதை) வந்த நாள் அக்ஷய த்ரிதியை.
ஒருமுறை நாராயண சேவையை ஸ்வீட்டுடன் செய்யலாமென எண்ணி அவசரப்பட்டு ஏற்பாடு செய்து விட்டேன். என் கணவரைக் கேட்கவில்லை. என் கணவர் ஏன் என்னைக் கேட்கவில்லை? இம்முறை இனிப்புக்கு ரூ. 500/- கொடுத்துவிட்டால் அடுத்த முறை சேவைக்கு பணம் பத்தாது என்றார். நான் இனிப்புக்கு யார் மூலமாக ஏற்பாடு செய்தேனோ அவரை போனில் அழைத்து, ஏற்பாட்டை நிறுத்த கூறினேன். ஆனால் அவரோ “மன்னியுங்கள், நான் இனிப்புக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்ய மறந்து விட்டேன்” என்றார். சற்று நேரத்தில் ஒருவர் வந்து “எங்கள் அம்மா முதல் முறை ஓய்வூதியம் வாங்கியுள்ளார். எனவே நாராயண சேவையுடன் இனிப்பு வாங்கி தாருங்கள்” என்று கூறி ரூ. 500/- கொடுத்து சென்றார். அதே போன்று ஒருமுறை நாராயண சேவைக்கு 108 உணவு பொட்டலம் கொடுப்பதாக சொல்லியிருந்தோம். ஆனால் சமையல் முடிந்து பொட்டலம் போட்ட போது 85 தான் வந்தது. அப்போது நந்தலால் சாயிராம் திரு. சமயராஜ் அவர்களின் வீட்டில் இருந்து நாராயன சேவைக்கு தயிர்சாதம் கொண்டு வந்தார். அதையும் சேர்த்த போது 120 பொட்டலம் வந்தது!
இஞ்சி சட்னி போட வேண்டுமென்று நினைத்த போது ஹோசூரிலிருந்து அதற்கு தேவையான பொருள்கள் வந்தது, வாழைக்காய் பொரியல் போட நினைத்த போது வாழைத்தார் வந்தது. தண்ணீர் தட்டுப்பாடு இருந்த நேரத்திலும் எங்கள் வீட்டு வாசலில் தண்ணீர் லாரியை நிறுத்தி, தண்ணீர் தந்தது எனப் பல நிகழ்ச்சிகளை அடுக்கிக் கொண்டே போகலாம்.
நாம்: ஒவ்வொரு நாராயண சேவையிலும் ஒரு அற்புத அனுபவம் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்கிறீர்கள், புரிகிறது. இதில் உங்கள் மனதை நெகிழ வைத்து, மயிர்கூச்செரிய வைத்த நிகழ்ச்சி ஒன்றை பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளுங்களேன்.
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: நாங்கள் பல வீடுகள் மாறியிருக்கிறோம். ஒவ்வொரு இடத்திலும் அருகே குடியிருப்பவர்கள் நாராயண சேவைக்குப் பொருளும், உடல் உழைப்பும் கொடுத்து உதவியிறுக்கிறார்கள். தற்போது நான் வசந்த நகரில் குடியிருக்கிறேன். இந்த யூனிட் பால விகாஸ் குழந்தைகள் தங்களது பிஞ்சுக் கரங்களால் செய்த உதவியை என்னால் மறக்க முடியாது. 2011ஆம் வருடம் தீபாவளிக்கு முந்தைய வாரம் தங்களின் குருவுடன் சுமார் 10 குழந்தைகள் இங்கு வந்தனர். ஆசைக்கு உச்சவரம்பிட்டு (Ceiling on desires) அந்த குழந்தைகள் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து ரூ. 700/- கொடுத்தனர். நான் அந்த குழந்தைகளிடம் எப்படி ஆசையை கட்டுப்படுத்தினீர்கள் என்று கேட்டேன். ஒரு குழந்தை எப்போதும் நான் தீபாவளிக்கு இரண்டு புத்தாடைகளை வாங்கிக் கொள்வேன், இந்த முறை அதை ஒன்றாகக் குறைத்தேன் என்றது. ஒரு குழந்தை பட்டாசைக் குறைத்தேன் என்றது. ஓர் இளம் பிஞ்சு, “சாய்ராம், இவர்கள் எல்லாம் 6 மாதமாக பணம் சேர்க்கின்றனர். நான் பாலவிகாஸில் சேர்ந்து ஒரு மாதம் தான் ஆகிறது. அதனால் நான் ஒரு மாதமாக எங்கள் பள்ளி Canteen-ல் உணவு சாப்பிடும் போது மிச்சப்படுத்தி ரூ. 51/- சேர்த்தேன் என்று பெறுமையுடன் சொன்னது. என் மனம் அப்படியே நெகிழ்ந்து விட்டது.
நாம்: பகவான் பாலவிகாஸை ஏற்படுத்தியதே குழந்தைகளிடம் இத்தகைய மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்தத்தானே!
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் இந்தக் குழந்தைகள் தீபாவளிக்கு முதல் வாரம் இவ்வாறு சேமித்து நாராயண சேவைக்குக் கொடுக்கிறார்கள். இம்முறை ரூ. 1200/- கொடுத்தார்கள்.
நாம்: கேட்கவே காது குளிர்கிறது. இபோது உங்கள் சேவைப் பணி எவ்வளவு விரிவடைந்திருக்கிறது?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: ஆரம்பத்தில் பொட்டலம் போட்டு புகைவண்டி நிலையம், பேருந்து நிலையம் போன்ற இடங்களில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு அளித்து வந்தோம். பிறகு சேவையை முறைப்படுத்தினோம். தற்போது மதுரையில் உள்ள பல இல்லங்களுக்கு நாராயண சேவை செய்து வருகிறோம். செஷயர் ஊனமுற்றோர் இல்லம், பைக்காரா முத்துராமலிங்கபுரம் பாலர் இல்லம், YMCA காது கேளாதோர்-வாய் பேசாதோர் இல்லம், சேவாஸ்ரமம், விஸ்வநாதபுரம் பாலர் இல்லம், ஷெனாய் நகர் சேவாலயம், நந்தநார்குடி, சுந்தர்ராஜன்பட்டி கண்ணிழந்தோர் பள்ளியென பல இடங்களுக்கு இந்தச் சேவை விரிவடைந்துள்ளது.
நாம்: இந்த இல்லங்களுக்கு எந்த வரிசையில் எப்படி முறைப்படுத்திக் கொடுக்கிறீர்கள்?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: ஒவ்வொரு வாரம் வியாழக்கிழமை அன்றே நானும் என் கணவரும் இல்லங்களுக்கு தொலைபேசி மூலம் கேட்டு, அவர்கள் தேவைக்கு ஏற்றார் போல் நாராயண சேவை செய்வோம். பிறகு ஒரு முறை ஏற்படுத்தி முதல் வாரம் சேவாலயம், இரண்டாவது வாரம் சேவாஸ்ரமம் என்று குறிப்பிட்ட வாரங்களில் அந்தந்த இல்லங்களுக்கு நாராயண சேவை செய்து வருகிறோம். பண்டிகை நாட்களில் எத்தனை இல்லங்களுக்கு முடியுமோ அத்தனை இல்லங்களுக்கு கொடுப்போம். சுவாமியின் பிரந்த நாள் வரும் போது ஒரே நாளில் காலை மாலை என்று இருமுறை கூட சேவை செய்திருக்கிறோம். ரம்ஜான் போது பள்ளிவாசலுக்கு சென்று பொட்டலங்கள் கொடுத்திருக்கிறோம்.
நாம்: அடேயப்பா! கேட்கவே வியப்பாக இருக்கிறது. நீங்கள் இருவர் மட்டும் எப்படி இவ்வளவு பெரியளவில் சேவை செய்ய முடிந்தது?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: பகவான் தான் எனக்கு Caretaker என்று சத்தியம் செய்து விட்டாரே, பிறகு என்ன? எனக்கு குழந்தைகள் கிடையாது./ ஆனால் பெற்றால்தான் பிள்ளையா? முதன் முதலில் நாங்கள் செய்யும் சேவையைக் கேள்விப்பட்டு யோகேஷ் என்ற சாயி இளைஞர் எங்கள் சேவையில் பங்கு கொண்டார். அவரைத் தொடர்ந்து ஒரு இளைஞர் பட்டாளமே திரண்டு எங்களுக்கு தோள் கொடுத்தது. எங்களைச் சுற்றி வியூகம் அமைத்தனர். எவ்வளவு பெரிய சேவையானாலும் செய்து முடித்து விடுவார்கள். ஒவ்வொரு வாரமும் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை எப்போது வரும், அவர்களை எப்போது பார்கலாம் என்று ஆவலுடன் காத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பேன். அவர்களில் பலர் தினமும் எங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு வருவார்கள். ஒவ்வொருவரையும் நான் சத்ய சாயியின் பிரசாதமாக, இல்லை, இல்லை, சத்ய சாயியின் அம்சமாகவே பார்க்கிறேன். என் உலகம் அவர்களை சுற்றி சுற்றி வருகிறது.
நாம்: அவர்களுக்கு நடந்த ஒரு அற்புதத்தை கூற முடியுமா?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் ஒரு அனுபவம், எனக்கோ பல அனுபவம். இவற்றை எல்லாம் தொகுத்து ஒரு புத்தகமாக வெளியிடயிருக்கிறேன். அதில் அனைத்தையும் கூற உள்ளேன்.
நாம்: நாங்கள் அதை ஆவலுடன் எதிர் நோக்கி காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். நாராயண சேவையைத் தவிர வேறு வகையான சேவைகள் ஏதேனும் செய்துள்ளீர்களா?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: நாராயண சேவைக்குப் போக எஞ்சிய நிதியில் புடவை, வேஷ்டி, மழை கோட்டு என பல வஸ்திர சேவை செய்திருக்கிறோம். இல்லங்களில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு மிதியடி வாங்கி தந்திருக்கிறோம். கணினி மேசை, தண்ணீர் மோட்டார், தன்ணீர் சுத்திகரிப்புக் கருவி வாங்கித் தந்துள்ளோம். சேவா இல்லங்களுக்கு மின் கம்பி இணைப்புகள் தந்திருக்கிறோம். ஊனமுற்றோர்க்கு மூன்று சக்கர வண்டி வாங்கித் தந்துள்ளோம். கண்புரை நீக்க அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்கு உதவியுள்ளோம். சேவை இல்லங்களில் நான் பால விகாஸ் வகுப்பு எடுப்பேன்.
நாம்: உங்கள் எதிர்காலத் திட்டம் என்ன?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: எனது கணவர் தனது ஆசையை ஓர் உயில் போல எழுதி வைத்திருக்கிறார். ஒரு கிராமத்தை தத்தெடுத்து அதை ஒரு ‘மாதிரி கிராமமாக’ ஆக்க வேண்டும் என்பது அவரது ஆசை. அங்கு இளைஞர்களுக்கு குறிப்பாக மகளிருக்கு வேதப் பயிற்சி, தொழிற்பயிற்சி தர வேண்டும். இயற்கை சூழலில் முதியோர் இல்லம், மருத்துவமனை, பள்ளிக் கூடங்கள் கட்ட வேண்டும் என்பது அவரது ஆசை.
நாம்: உங்களுக்கு......?
திருமதி வசுந்தரா: என் கடைசி மூச்சுள்ளவரை நாராயண சேவை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பது என் ஆசை. ஆனால் 10 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இருந்த இளைஞர்கள் திருமணமாகி வேலைக்குச் சென்று விட்டனர். எனவே இளைஞர் எண்ணிக்கைக் குறைந்து விட்டது. என் கணவர் சாயி திருவடி சேர்ந்த பிறகு எனக்கு உடல் நலமும் சரியில்லை. எனக்கு பிறகு நாராயண சேவை செய்ய தகுந்தோரை தயார் செய்து அவர்களிடம் என்னிடமுள்ள பாத்திர பண்டங்களைக் கொடுத்து அவர்கள் நாராயண சேவை செய்வதைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டே சாயி திருவடியைச் சேர வேண்டும் என்பது என் விருப்பம்.
நாம்: நீங்கள் பல்லாண்டு வாழ்ந்து நாராயண சேவை செய்து பகவானின் அருளுக்கு பாத்திரமாவீர்கள் என்பதில் எங்களுக்கு ஐயமில்லை. உங்களுக்கு நீண்ட ஆயுள், நல்ல ஆரோக்கியம், அனைத்து ஐஸ்வர்யமும் தர நமது பகவானை அன்புடன் வேண்டிக் கொள்கிறாம்.

An individual, who had a large family, sat down for meditation in his home. As one child or another was disturbing him, he locked himself in a room. But even now he was disturbed by frequent knocks on the door by someone or other. So he betook himself to a forest and began meditating under a tree. But here he was troubled by the droppings from the birds on the tree. Disgusted with the disturbances at home and in the forest he felt that the best thing was to end his existence. Unfortunately, he was unable to realise that God was present in everything and cultivate forbearance. He indeed exemplifies the devotee in whom Rajo guna is predominant. To be able to concentrate wherever one may be is the mark of the devotee with satwic quality. Such a devotee will be able to practise concentration whether in the midst of a crowd or alone. Any disturbance will be looked upon as coming from God and be accepted.

You should not pursue spirituality with any end result in mind. One who works for wages is a worker and not an owner. The daily wage earner will not have any ownership or interest towards completing the tasks. He or she will worry about being present till the schedule, collect their wages and leave. Thus, he or she thinks that they are separate from the organisation. In your home, the wife or the children do their respective duties, but do not demand any wages. The wife does not ask any sort of income for the activities she does. She discharges her responsibility with purity and perfection, and takes care of everything at home. One who prays, just for a result is like that daily wage earner. One who enjoys the feeling that God is his own, and that God is within them, is like the owner. Aspire to become owners and not servants.

Wherever you see, whoever you see, there is nothing but Divinity that is present. Salute all beings, even if you think they are inferior to you. Remember, you are not saluting the individual but to the Divine within them. If you have one thousand pots filled with water, the reflection of the Sun shining above will be the same in all the pots. So too, the reflection of the Divine is present equally in all beings. Just as the reflection of Sun will depend upon what is present within the pot, what you see around you is a reflection, reaction and resound of your own actions. Whatever you do or say comes back to you. You see your own form in the mirror. If you hate others, you hate yourself. There is no use in blaming God for your own actions. God is attributeless, sacred, pure and wise. It is human ignorance to attribute qualities to God.

Contentment is the most precious treasure

Accept everything as God’s gift (Prasadam). Always feel that whatever you have is not yours, and it has come from God. Accept pain too as God’s gift and be content with that. Learn to be happy that God has given you two square sufficient meals. If you compare yourself with a wealthy person, who has four rich meals while you are having two, you will feel discontented. On the other hand, think of the poor man who cannot manage even one meal a day. In this manner, develop contentment. You must learn to be satisfied in simple things too. It is only then that Divinity can blossom from humanness. Being contented is a most important human quality and it can be gained through incessant devotion to the Lord. Continue chanting His name and develop your Love for Him, and dedicate your Life unto Him.

Many imagine that God will appear before them in response to their worship (Yagnas). These are illusions, merely imagination. What ultimately manifests before you is the nameless, formless Lord. In reality, God does not have any one specific form. Your mind keeps prompting such imagination. When you think of God as Krishna, the feelings of Krishna are aroused in you by your mind. As your feelings guide you, you see the manifestation of your favourite Lord everywhere. You must proceed on the path, focusing on the Divine Self. Control the activity of the mind and proceed on the path until the mind vanishes. The Divine Self has no name or form. Install within yourself that nameless, formless Divine. The whole world is the manifestation of the One Divine Soul. In all the beings, whether they are small insects, birds, animals or human beings, the same Lord pervades. T herefore, salute the Lord in every being.

Meditation does not mean simply sitting with eyes closed, contemplating on a Form. You may close your eyes, and focus on the form. But if there is some fickleness in the mind while meditating, then it becomes concentration and not contemplation. When the fickle-mindedness fades away, then your concentration becomes steady and turns into contemplation and slowly, you forget both yourself and the Form, and attain Samadhi. Ultimately, there will be no Form – hence it is called Atma. People give it different names. Don’t worry if you are worshipping one Form over another – it is not the end; this is not concentration. Persist and focus on the Form and see that it becomes steady. As you proceed further on the path, your focus becomes fully steady and contemplation blossoms into meditation.

Never get dejected at any point in time for anything. It is said that there are two losses for the one who is dissatisfied - Asantushto Dvijo Nashtaha. One is they will not have any happiness and second, they will also not be at peace. Why do people feel dissatisfied? People get restless or disheartened, if someone is in a higher position or is wearing better clothes or is more educated than them. Don’t look at someone who is better than you. Compare yourself with someone who is in a lower position than you. Then, you will not develop negative qualities. When you compare yourself with someone better than you, ego and jealousy will certainly enter you. If you see the under privileged and the distressed, and have compassion for them and serve them, you will feel satisfied. Strengthen your empathy and develop noble qualities in this manner.

It is not sufficient if you study well, receive degrees, get good jobs and earn high salaries. Today people worship wealth. They earn a lot of money and as they amass it, they waste it by spending it on constructing tall buildings, buying cars and for other such selfish purposes. Wealth acquired through unfair means is also being spent off in similar unfair activities. Money comes today and goes tomorrow, moves from person to person. Your ancestors also earned a lot of money. But they used it for judicious, righteous and noble pursuits. They built shelters for passersby, dug wells to provide water and established educational institutions and health centers. God Fulfills your desires

Prema (Love) should be shown not only towards God but towards all beings in creation. Love is a powerful force. No other power excels it. Misunderstanding the nature of love, people are falling a prey to suffering. This is the result of misguided expressions of what is considered love. People today worship God for the fulfillment of desires relating to this world and the other. This is not true love. People pretend to love their kith and kin and friends out of purely selfish considerations. This is only attachment and not love. Only that can be described as love which offers itself without any expectation of recompense. In the Gita, God has been describedSuhrith (a true friend). Without expecting any return, accompanying you like a shadow, God fulfills your desires. God has no expectations. Suhrith defines the utterly selfless love of the Lord.

Thought for the Day

No one filled with greed, fear and anger can achieve anything in this world. Excessive desires degrade a person. One cannot give up desires entirely. But there should be a limit to them. When they exceed the limits one goes astray. Desires are dreadfully dangerous. Today's enemy may become tomorrow's friend and vice versa. But desires are perpetual enemies. They haunt man ceaselessly. The Gita declares desire as the Nityashatru (eternal enemy) of man. Hence desire has to be kept under control. ‘Kamam hitva arthona bhavathi’ (One who has given up desire is free from worries). ‘Lobham hitva sukhee bhavathi' (Overcoming greed one becomes happy). When you rid the mind of impurities, humanness turns divine.
