Thought for the Day

Hypocrisy is rampant now in the spiritual field more than ever before. There is iron and magnet. The magnet will draw the iron to itself; that is the destiny of both. But, if the iron is covered with rust, the grace of the magnet may not operate strong enough to draw the iron near. Greed for sensual pleasure will certainly act as rust! It acts as dust, which induces rust; the rust will ultimately ruin the iron itself and change its innate nature. So, the iron must be tested constantly and dusted. Then, when it contacts the magnet, it too earns the magnetic quality and achieves its quest. That achievement is the best for both magnet and iron. The dust of sensual greed can be prevented by keeping good company, and putting into practice the axioms of good conduct that one learns from it!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

An air-conditioner may cool your body. But, God’s grace alone can cool the heated brain and troubled heart.

Develop brotherly feelings for all. God is one. Love is one. Genuine love transcends caste, colour and creed. Truth is one. The goal is one. For, all roads must lead to the one God. How then can you quarrel and fight with your brethren? Our culture has emphasised the valid ways in which you must spend your energy and money - to serve the distressed, the diseased, the hungry, the illiterate, the ill-housed and the ill-clothed. It condemns the spending of energy and money for pomp, vengeance, competitive faction and material triumphs. Wealth is to be held on trust and used for promoting the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God. It also clearly lays down that nothing should be done to damage any one's faith in God or in his own self. Faith is a tender plant and it needs all the nurture that you can give.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Jesus was compassion (karuna) come in human form. He spread the spirit of compassion and conferred solace on the distressed and the suffering. Good works always provoke the wicked. But one should not falter or fear when opposition obstructs. The challenge gives joy, it evokes hidden sources of strength and brings down grace to reinforce the effort. Pleasure springs during the interval between two pains. One has to struggle with difficulties in order to taste the delight of victory. Jesus was the target for many mighty obstacles and He braved them all. Jesus was love incarnate. He manifested love in the form of service. Jesus wore himself out in such service. The heart full of compassion is truly the temple of God. Develop compassion. Serve food to the hungry, solace to the forlorn, and consolation to the sick and the suffering. Live in Love. Be good, do good and see good. This is the way to God.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Jesus was supremely pure and sacred. To forget Jesus' teachings and to profess love for Him is no love at all. You must all remember: "God is One. Love is God. Live in Love." There is no use in merely invoking the name of Jesus and praying to Him without regard to His most vital message: "God is in everyone. Do not revile anyone. Do not cause harm to anyone." This was Jesus' greatest message. Jesus sacrificed his life to establish "Peace on earth and goodwill amongst all human beings”. Without peace, mankind cannot achieve progress in any sphere, be it material, spiritual or moral. What the world needs today is the redeeming and unifying force of love that Jesus gave - love which continually expands and embraces more and more people. Mankind should become one family. The world will then become a paradise. Hence today onwards, give up narrow ideas regarding your religion, nation, caste or creed, and develop a broad outlook. I wish you all happiness.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Far more beneficial than honouring the great is the practice of loving them. Praise and eulogy will raise them to an unreachable pedestal. Love binds one heart to another. Gratitude for the inspiration and instruction received must bind hearts in love. Celebration of Christmas should not include some carols, tableaux, artificial trees and Santa Claus. It must be soaked in the resolution to practice at least a few lessons Jesus taught us. The very first need is faith in God and in our own Divine Nature. Spiritual joy, appreciation, and the vision (Darshan) of God must become the natural breath of life and the very purpose of your existence. Jesus taught by precept and example to mankind the Atmic principle which is the eternal source of bliss. Whatever you do, wherever you are, however you fare, be convinced that you are ever in God. Know that all is Divine and all acts are offerings to the glory of God. In this manner make your lives fruitful.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Be regular in the hours you devote to Japam or repetition of God’s name. On holidays, when you have no worry of office or shopping, do more Japam till late into the morning. Do with love and enthusiasm. It should become natural for you to do so. The Grace of the Guru helps a lot; you can win His grace by your efforts and earnest prayer. Vivekananda was sliding into atheism and agnosticism as he read more and more books, but a touch from the hand of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, his Guru, transformed him completely. You can also win this Grace, by your efforts and earnest prayer. Before you start meditation, chant Soham, inhaling So and exhaling Ham. Soham means 'He is I’, it identifies you with the Infinite and expands your Consciousness. Harmonise your breath and thoughts. Breathe gently and naturally; do not make it artificial and laboured. It must flow in and out, soft and silent!

Thought for the Day

Dharmakshetra and Kurukshethra are not merely places near Delhi or Hastinapur on the map of India. Nor are the Pandavas and Kauravas merely princely clans figuring in the tale. The human body is called kshetra (field), and so Dharmakshetra, is in every one. When the owner of the body discards all desires, passions and impulses, then the body becomes Dharma-kshetra (the field of righteousness)! A child has in its heart only Dharmakshetra, for it has not developed sensual desires. It accepts whatever is offered. Its ego is not yet ramified into the objective world of multiplicity. But later, when it grows branches and foliage, the Dharmakshetra takes the shape of Kurukshetra - the battlefield where the mind struggles between hope and despair, and is forced to consume the diverse fruits, sweet and bitter, as a result of its own choice of actions. Actions illumined by Jnana or wisdom bring about success. The Jnana that God alone exists can win the grace of God!

Thought for the Day

We find that even among the highly educated, few help their ageing parents and give them a fraction of the comforts they themselves command. Each one is immersed in ensuring their own standard of living. How long can you live that standard of life? A day will come when you must bid farewell to all that you have garnered with cunning and cleverness, inflicting pain and sorrow, discontent and distress on many. Service to parents, elders and the suffering gives joy and satisfaction beyond compare. Virtue and righteousness - these will bear witness on your behalf on the Day of Judgement; neither your bank account nor your income tax returns will speak for you. Now the Divine Principle is beyond your experience, because you are not ready to give your best to others, in whom also contains the self-same Principle. When you are ready to give, you are entitled to take; not until then. Love and co-operate. Help and serve.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

God is immanent in the world. So treat the world as lovingly as you will treat your Master. Serve, whatever be the obstacle or the cynical ridicule you may attract. The torture that his father inflicted to turn his mind away from God helped to bring out the unflinching devotion of Prahlada. The wickedness of Ravana served to reveal the might of Rama's bow. Traducers like Shishupala, Dantavakra, Ravana, and Kamsa are inevitable accessories of every incarnation. When you attempt to cultivate and share virtues, selfless love and fortitude, trouble and travail will naturally follow. You must welcome them, for without them the best in you cannot be drawn out. If gold was as plentiful as dust or diamonds as easily available as pebbles, no one would care for them. Remember, precious metals are won after enormous exertion and expense, that is why they are eagerly sought after forever!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Of what avail is it if you simply worship your choicest God’s name and form, without attempting to cultivate the samatwa (equal love for all) that God has, and His unruffled equanimity (shanti), His abundant love (prema), His infinite patience and fortitude (sahana), and His ever-blissful nature (ananda)? In your lectures you elaborate on the incidents that are described as 'miracles' in books written on Me as the unique powers of Sai. I request you not to attach importance to these. Do not exaggerate their significance; the most significant and important power is My selfless love (prema). I may turn the sky into earth, or earth into sky, but that is not the sign of Divine might. The abundant love that is universal and ever-present - this is the unique sign of Divinity. Do not fall into the error of considering some to be worthy of reverence and some unworthy. Sai is in every one, so all deserve your reverence and service!

Clarification from GSTN regarding GSTR1

1). The taxpayers whose aggregate turnover during preceding financial year exceeded Rs. 1.5 Cr or the new registrants who estimate their turnover to exceed Rs. 1.5 Cr during current financial year, have to file return on monthly basis. Filing of GSTR-1 for the tax period of August, 2017 and onwards is likely to commence soon. In the meantime, such taxpayers can upload the invoices for August, September, October 2017 to avoid last minute rush.
2). The taxpayers whose aggregate turnover during the preceding financial year remained upto Rs. 1.5 Cr or the new registrants who estimate their turnover to remain upto Rs. 1.5 Cr during current financial year, but who intends to file return on monthly basis, can also upload the invoices for the month of August, 2017.
All other taxpayers liable to file GSTR-1 shall upload the invoices and file GSTR-1 for the quarter ending September, 2017 after the option to file the same is available on the portal. The taxpayers eligible to file return on quarterly basis but have already filed the return for the month of July, 2017, shall have to upload the invoices of August and September and have not to include the invoices of July month again.
3). The taxpayers who have not filed GSTR-1 for the month of July, are advised to file the same quickly as they will not be able to file GSTR-1 for remainder of quarter (August-September) till they have filed GSTR-1 of July.

Thought for the Day

Sage Patanjali defines Yoga as the control (nirodha) of the agitations (vrittis) of your mind (chitta). When your mind is stilled and is free from waves produced by the wind of desire, then you become a Yogi! Lord Krishna is called Yogeeshwara in the Gita, for, as the highest Yogi He is the ocean that is unaffected by the waves which agitate the surface. Indeed, young Lord Krishna danced on the hood of the serpent Kaliya and forced it to vomit its poison! The inner significance is that He rendered the poisonous snake (sensual desires) harmless! Yoga that enables you to practice sense control and not merely breath control, is the best way to attain the Yogeeshwara. Transcend the ‘many-consciousness’ (anekatwa bhava) and cultivate ‘One Consciousness’ (ekatwa bhava)! That will end strife, grief, pain and pride. See all as many expressions of the One Lord, as manifold bulbs of various colours and wattage lit by the same current.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Ideas of superiority and inferiority arise only in a heart corrupted by egoism. If someone argues that they are superior and their path to worship is holier, it is proof that they missed the very core of faith. Spiritual efforts (sadhana) must reveal the unity in all creation. Ask yourself this: When you rise after bhajans or meditation, do you see everyone in a clearer light, as endowed with Divinity? Do you love more, do you talk less, do you serve others more earnestly? These are the signs of success in Sadhana. Your progress must be authenticated by your character and behaviour. Even a boulder will, through the action of sun, rain, heat and cold, disintegrate into mud and become food for a tree. Sadhana must transmute your attitude towards beings and things; else it is a hoax, a waste of your time! Remember, even the hardest of hearts can be softened and Divine will sprout therein – so, do not give up!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

The rosary (japamala) is very useful for beginners in the spiritual path, but as you progress, japa or repetition of the Name must become the very breath of your life, and so, the rotation of beads become superfluous. The practice should lead you to 'Sarvada sarva kaleshu sarvatra Hari chintanam', meaning, one should meditate upon the Lord always, at all times, and in all places. Just as you discard the belt after you learn to swim, and the crutches when you start walking, japamala is just a contrivance to help concentration and systematic contemplation. More importantly, have no thorn of hate in your mind, and develop prema (Love) towards all. Desire is a storm, greed is a whirlpool, pride is a precipice, attachment is an avalanche, and egoism is a volcano. Keep these things away so that, as you do japa-dhyana(meditative contemplation), they do not disturb the equanimity. Let love be enthroned in your heart. Then, there will be sunshine, cool breeze, and gurgling waters of contentment feeding the roots of faith.

Thought for the Day

Spiritual striving (sadhana) will reveal the true identity of the Omnipresent Divine Self. But be careful; Sadhana can foster even pride and envy as a byproduct of progress. You calculate how much or how long you have done Sadhana and are tempted to look down on another, whose record is less. You are proud that you have recited or written the name of Lord ten million times; you talk about it whenever you get the chance so that others may admire your faith and fortitude. But it is not the millions that count; what matters is the purity of mind that results from genuine concentration on the Name. Your Sadhana must not be like carrying water in a cane basket! You get no water however often or long you walk. Each vice is a hole in the cane basket. Keep the heart pure and whole. You must also carefully cleanse from your heart malice, greed, hate and anger.

Thought for the Day

Your mind is too full of the world and your stomach demands too much of your time and energy. Desires and wants are multiplying faster than your capacity to satisfy them, and your dreams are far too fanciful, leading you into false victories and absurd adventures. Engrossed in the analysis of the material world, you have lost all sense of spirit, sweetness and sublimity. Under this new dispensation, truth is yet another word in the dictionary. Compassion is reduced to a meaningless travesty. People lack self-confidence. Even at the slightest provocation, you are rapidly transformed into a wild and vicious beast. Humility, patience, reverence - these are as invalid as a flameless lamp in the far distance. The only hope you have in today’s dreadful darkness is the name of God. That is the raft which will take you across this stormy sea, darkened by hate and fear, and churned by anxiety and terror. Take it with all earnestness and steadfast faith.

Thought for the Day

Do not grieve, nor be the cause of grief. The very embodiment of Ananda (Bliss) is in you, as in others, as in all else. In spite of a multiplicity of containers, the contained is the same. That is the principle of Sat, Chit and Ananda (Being, Awareness, Bliss). The minutest atom and the mightiest star - both are basically one. All are, in truth, Brahman or Divine. You read in the sacred books that Lord Vishnu has the Garuda (Eagle) as His carrier, that Shiva has the Nandi (Bull) as His vehicle, that Lord Brahma rides on a Hamsa(Swan), that Lord Subrahmanya travels on a peacock, and that Shani has the crow as his vehicle. Ganesha rides on a mouse, though he is stupendously corpulent and has the head of an elephant! This does not mean that the Gods are helpless without these animals and birds as instruments of locomotion. It only reveals that no bird or beast is to be despised, for the Divine is using each as His instrument. Seen as deha (body), all are distinct; seen as dehi (the embodiment), Brahman, all are One.

Thought for the Day

Millions recite the Lord’s Name, but few have steady faith! Fewer seek the bliss (Ananda) that contemplation on the glory of God within, the Atma, can confer. Some people complain that recitation (japam) has not cured their pain, grief or greed! It is because they mechanically recite prayers and meditate out of habit or for social conformity or to gain reputation for religiousness! When people who have learnt the precious scriptures revealing Atma-vidya (science of the Self) do not put into practice what they repeat orally and have no faith in the assertions, what profit can they get from it? The canker of doubt has undermined their reverential attitude to the scripture. They devalue the scriptures into money-or-fame-earning devices, and when they do not get money or fame through them, they are disappointed. They envy those who follow secular avocations. But if they only develop faith, scriptures themselves will foster them and ensure for them a happy and contented life.

In fishing, the angler uses a rod and a line; that line has a float from which hangs inside the water a sharp hook with a worm. The fish is drawn by the worm to the hook, the float shakes, the angler feels the pull of the fish on the line, and he draws it on the land, where it is helpless and unable to breathe. Your body is the rod, your yearning or the eager longing is the line, your intelligence is the float, discrimination is the hook and knowledge is the worm; a clever angler thus catches the fish of the Divine (Atma)! When you get spiritual wisdom, you are drawn to the Divine (Kaivalyam). Kaivalyam is the state in which you experience the Lord as all-comprehensive, as Will, as Activity, as Bliss, as Intelligence and as Existence. To be firmly established in this Divine State, you must suppress your ignorance (tamas), sublimate your passions (rajas) and assiduously cultivate purity (sathwa).

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Every morning ask yourself this question: "What is the grand victory I must strive for in this life, for which these struggles are preparing me? Remind yourself that your body is the chariot, intellect (buddhi) is the charioteer, desires are the roads which you tread drawn by the rope of sensual attachments, and liberation (moksha) is the goal; the Divine Self within should be your Guide and Goal. If you yearn to escape the consequences of birth and death, cleanse your mind so effectively that it is nearly eliminated! This is possible only when you identify yourself with the Indweller within you (Dehi), rather than with the body (Deha)! Your body is the casket of the Atma, earned as a reward for one’s activities of mind and body. When you live in the consciousness of the omnipresent Divine, you live in love - love surging within and through you, to everyone around you. You will naturally experience love, peace and joy, always!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

The cow transforms grass and gruel into sweet strength-giving milk and gives it away in plenty to its master. Develop that quality, that power to transform the food you consume into sweet thoughts, words and deeds of compassion for all. When your heart is filled with virtues, the Lord will shower His Grace abundantly. Draupadi earned the Lord’s Grace through her devotion and virtues. Without steadfastness and depth of faith, none can receive Grace. Endeavour to earn Grace by observing the discipline that I am keen you should follow. Give up your old worldly ways of earning and spending, saving and accumulating with greed, lust, malice and pride. Do not waste time in idle gossip. Talk softly and sweetly, and talk as little as possible. Serve all as brothers and sisters adoring the Lord in them. Engage in sadhana; move every step as befits a person striving to realise God.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Reform the body, reconstruct the mind, and regulate the way of living, then every nation will become automatically strong and prosperous

You may have witnessed chariot festivals (Rathotsavam) in pilgrimage centers. Huge temple chariots are gorgeously decorated with flags and festoons, stalwart bands of men draw them along the roads to the music of blowpipes and conches, and dancing groups and chanters precede it, adding to the exhilaration of the occasion. Thousands crowd around the holy chariot. Their attention is naturally drawn towards the entertainment, but they feel happiest only when they fold their palms and bow before the Idol in the chariot. The rest is all subsidiary, even irrelevant. So too in the process of life, body is the chariot, and the Atmais the Idol installed therein. Earning and spending, laughing and weeping, hurting and healing, and the various acrobatics in daily living are but subsidiary to the adoration of God and the union with God

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Life must be spent in accumulating and safeguarding virtue, not riches. Listen and ruminate over the stories of the great moral heroes of the past, so that their ideals may be imprinted on your hearts. Nowadays, virtue is becoming rare in the individual, family, society and community, as well as in all fields, be it economic, political and even 'spiritual’. So also, there is a decline in discipline, which is the soil on which virtue grows. Respect one and all. Unless each one is respected, whatever be their status, economic condition, or spiritual development, there can be no peace and happiness in life. This respect can be aroused only by the conviction that the same Atma (Self) that is in you is playing the role of the other person. See that Atma in others, feel that they too have hunger, thirst, yearning and desires as you have; develop sympathy and the anxiety to serve and be useful.

Thought for the Day

There is only one royal road for the spiritual journey - Love, love for all beings as manifestation of the same Divinity that is the very core of oneself. This faith alone ensures the constant presence of God with you, and endows you with all the joy and courage you need to fulfill your life’s pilgrimage to God. When the reservoir is full of water and you turn on the taps, then the buckets will be filled. Cultivate love and devotion, then your activities will be saturated with compassion and charity, and yield the golden harvest of joy and peace. Love must be unselfish and universal. You judge for yourself whether your love is narrow or broad, and whether your devotion is shallow or deep. Are you content with your achievement? Examine it yourself and pronounce the verdict on yourself, using your own discrimination.

Thought for the Day

Despite the many Navaratris and Shivaratris (auspicious festivals) you attend at holy places, unless you illumine your heart and make it shine clear and pure, it will be shrouded in darkness, immersed in ratri (night) only. You may say that progress is possible only through My Grace, but though My heart is soft as butter, it melts only when there is some warmth in your prayer. Unless you make some disciplined effort and do some sadhana (spiritual activities), grace cannot descend on you. The yearning and the agony of unfulfilled aim melts My heart. That anguish (aavedana) wins grace. Sadhanamust make you calm, unruffled, poised, and balanced. Your mind must be cool and comforting as moonlight, for Moon is the deity holding sway over mind. Be calm in speech, and in your responses to malice, cavilling and praise.

Thought for the Day

Learn a lesson from the tree. When it is heavy with fruits it does not raise its head aloft in pride, it bends low, stoops, as if it does not take any credit for its accomplishment and as if it is helping you to pluck the fruit. Similarly, learn a lesson from the birds. They feed those who cannot fly far. The bird relieves the itch of the buffalo by scratching it with its beak; they help and serve each other, with no thought of reward. How much more alert must you be, than the birds and trees with your superior skills and faculties? Remember, service is the best cure for egoism, and so you must engage in it to relieve pain and grief to the extent you can. Try to assuage, as far as you can, the distress of others; when done sincerely, it is the best spiritual practice for a true spiritual aspirant.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

All spiritual practice must be directed to the removal of the husk and the revelation of the kernel

Some people, afraid of cynical criticism by unbelievers, are reluctant to walk the streets in groups singing the glory of God during early morning hours! When you have the very Embodiment of Fearlessness installed in your heart, why should the slightest tremor of fear affect you? You came into this world alone, with no companion, isn't it? During the years of life, you gathered wife and children, kith and kin, and friends and acquaintances who attached themselves to you. When you return to the realm from which you came, you enter it alone with no one to keep company. So too let the journey with Nagarasankirtan be. Come into the street alone, collect kith and kin if they come unto you, move with them unconcerned and unaffected, revel in your own sweet solitariness, and finally enter your home with the satisfaction that your job is well done. Fellows may laugh at you as insane but this insanity is infectious and very soon, even the irreverent will be initiated into the fold.

Man walks with two legs: iha and para (this world and the other), dharma and Brahman, righteousness and God! If one is totally engrossed in this world, the person is choosing to travel all through one’s life with a handicap, hopping on one leg. That is fraught with trouble; the person may fall any moment and break the shin. And one does! Goodness in this world and Godliness for the life after death - equal attention needs to be given to both. One must be vigilant while taking a step, whichever foot it may be. Both are essential for a happy journey through life. You have to put the right foot, the Brahman step, when you enter the region of realisation. By then the senses have to be conquered. Go means senses and Go-pi means a person who has subdued the senses, as a result of surrender to Go-pala, the master of the senses. Krishna once told Arjuna that he can enter Vrajamandala(the region where the Gopis lived), only after mastering his emotions and impulses, and his tendency to yield to the senses

Thought for the Day

Many of you are yearning to get nectar (amrit) from Me. But of what benefit is it merely to swallow a few drops of nectar created by Me? It is when the satwik (pure) quality wins and subdues the rajasik and the tamasik (passionate and ignorant) qualities in the battles that go on in every heart, that amrit arises therein! This amrit that confers immortality must be won through your own spiritual practices (Sadhana). People practising meditation are taught an exercise called urdhva-drishti (upward vision) in which the two eyes are directed upwards, to a point between the eyebrows. Urdhva means upward and drishti means look, so the term means, not a mere physical exercise, but a lifetime of effort to direct your mind to avoid and abstain from lower desires, and to uplift itself to nobler thoughts. Such an effort will win amrit, it will flow from the spring of the heart!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

The bee hovers around the lotus, it sits upon it, it drinks the nectar; while drinking the sweet intoxicating honey, it is silent, steadfast, concentrated, and forgetful of all else. That pure love (prema) is experienced by the inner I, which is the reflection of the real I, your Divine Soul (Atma). Every individual behaves exactly like the bee when they are immersed in the presence of God. The hum of the bee ceases and it is silent once the drinking of the nectar begins. So also, people argue, fight, condemn, and assert only until they discover the sweet essence of Divinity (rasa). The Divine rasa or essence is prema rasa, the sweetness of pure love. Where there is love, there can be no fear, no anxiety, no doubt, and no ashanti (absence of peace). When you are afflicted with restlessness and agitation, you can be sure that your love is narrow, restricted, and it has some ego or selfishness mixed in it.

Thought for the Day

Do not demean your talents; when you dive deep into yourselves you can discover the source of all strength. Ants creeping over a huge rock, millions of them, can carve a deep groove along their path. The minute feet of the ant have that power. You might have seen on the walls around the village wells, deep holes produced on granite slabs by the continuous placing of water pots! The pots are made of mud, but over years they erase even the hardest granite! The embodiment of the Self (Atma-swarupa) that you are is not an embodiment of insignificance (alpa-swarupam)! The Atma is not anaemic. It is a powerful dynamo, capable of generating enormous power. Your spiritual teacher (Guru) shows you the goal (guri); but, you must generate the power yourself, by your own spiritual effort.

Thought for the Day

Lord Krishna demonstrated that if you practise the spiritual exercise of living in the constant presence of God, you are bound to achieve victory. Take Him as your charioteer; He will steer you through the heaviest of odds. He has no favourites or rivals. Like fire, He spreads warmth to all near Him. If you do not feel the warmth, do not blame Him: blame yourself! Hiranyakashipu said, 'He is nowhere' and so, God was nowhere for him; Prahlada asserted 'He is everywhere,' and He appeared from the pillar to prove him true. God did not run into the pillar to come out of it! He was there all along, just as in everything else! He just made Himself visible! I am also like that; if you accept Me and say yes, I too respond and say, “Yes, yes, yes”! If you deny and say, no, I also echo, “no”. Come, examine, experience and have faith; that is the best way to profit from Me.

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

I will tell you today what is beneficial to you, which you must put into daily practice. Develop renunciation with regards to your own needs and wishes. Examine each on the touchstone of essentiality. When you pile up things in your apartment, you only promote darkness and dust; so also, do not collect and store too many materials in your mind. Travel light. Have just enough to sustain life and maintain health. The pappu (dish of lentils) must have only enough uppu (salt) to make it relishing; do not spoil the 'dal' with extra salt. Life becomes difficult to bear, if you add too much desire to it. Limit your desires to your capacity and amongst them, choose those that grant lasting joy. Do not run after fashion and public approval and strain your resources. Stick to your own code of rules that regulate your life based on your spiritual progress. Place the needs and joys of others first, as more important than yours!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

Everyone is now seeking comfort and pleasure; that seems to be the be-all and end-all. If you tell people that they can eat whatever they like and as much as they like, they are delighted; if you add that they might develop, as a consequence, some illness or other, they will treat you as an enemy! No regimen or control is popular. But strength is derived only from control, from restraint and regulation. People become tough and capable of endurance only if they welcome hardships. Struggle, and you get the strength to succeed. Seek the basis for the seen in the unseen. The tall skyscraper has a deep base reaching into the earth. This seen world has as its base the unseen Paramathma (Supreme Lord)! Your body is the god-gifted instrument through which you can search, investigate, and discover that base

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

You might say that the karma from previous birth must be consumed in this birth and that no amount of grace can save you. Evidently someone has taught you to believe so. I assure you, you need not suffer from karma like that. When severe pain torments you, the doctor gives you a morphine injection (pain-killer), and you do not feel the pain though it is there in your body. Grace is like morphine; the pain is not felt, though you go through it! Grace takes away the malignity of the karma which you undergo. Just like dated drugs are declared ineffective after a certain date, with Grace, the effect of karma is rendered null, though the account is there! Hence, it is wrong to say the ‘Lalata likhitam’ (fate written on the forehead) cannot be rendered ineffective. Grace can surpass anything; nothing can stand in its way. Remember, it is the grace of the ‘All-mighty’!

Bagavan Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thought for the Day

In the present times, there is none fully good, and so who deserves the protection of God? All are tainted by wickedness! Will anyone survive if God decides to uproot evil? Therefore I have to correct the buddhi (intellect) by various means; I have to counsel, help, command, condemn and standby as friend and well-wisher to all, so that they may give up evil propensities, recognise the straight path, tread it and reach the goal. I have to reveal to the people the worth of the Vedas and the scriptural texts, which lay down the norms. The easiest path to self-realisation is the surrender of the ego. Arjuna surrendered and so the war he was engaged in was transformed into a yajna, a sacrifice! Daksha performed a yajna, but was so full of egoism and chose not to surrender! So his yajna was transformed into a war filled with hate. Do not pit your tiny ego against the Almighty; leave it to His Will and you will enjoy lasting peace.

Thought for the Day

Embodiments of the Divine Self! You are celebrating today as the Birthday of Swami, and deriving divine bliss (ananda) through various programs carried on with enthusiasm; but in fact, I have no wish to consider this as a special day! Such desire, does not exist in Me at any time, in this or any other sojourn. I need nothing, however great or small, in this Universe! I have come with one purpose: To reveal to everyone of you the mystery of your reality and the goal of your life! What you should place before Me as offering is Pure Love from within. When you offer Me that, I derive Ananda! From today, spend your days and years in activities that help and care for those who are in dire need, and make this human existence of yours worthwhile and fruitful. Conduct yourself appropriately and realise the goal of your life. My blessings to you!

Thought for the Day

It is essential for students to understand why morality and spirituality have disappeared from society. Education without character, science without human values, commerce without ethics, and politics without truth are responsible for the erosion of virtue. Students have a duty to develop patriotism and restore these forgotten values. Today’s education makes one clever but does not instill virtue. Students transform their heads (mastakam) into books (pustakam) without practising human values. There is no benefit in turning your head into a book or vice versa. Recognise the path of Truth and demonstrate it in day-to-day living. The world needs people imbued with integrity. All that is learned must culminate in behaviour. Life today is based on show, expenditure, and comfort. Humanity’s problems can be solved not by money or science but by humanity alone. People must transform themselves to live as human beings.
