puliyothari – recipe

Ingredients:
Raw rice ............................ 1 kg
Tamarind .......................... 90 mg.
Bengal gram...................... 25 mg
Urad gram(white) ............. 25 mg
asafetida ............................ ½ spoon
turmeric powder ............... 1 spoon
Dill powder ....................... 1 spoon
Red chilly ........................... 20 in no.
Oil ..................................... 400 ml.
mustard ........................... little
salt ..................................... little salt as you require

Soak the tamarind in two cups of water for ½ an hour. Then squeeze it till get the paste. Strain it well, pour in a vessel and keep on the oven. Put the turmeric powder and asafetida in the tamarind paste and add a little salt as you require. After fifteen minutes, stir the paste until it gets little thick. Then pour the oil in a frying pan, when gets hot sim the flame and put mustard, Bengal gram and white urad gram and chilies. Then off the gas. Chilies must be put in the paste. Keep the grams and oil in a vessel. Raw rice must be cooked in the rice cooker. After cooking the rice you must put the rice in a big plate and make it warm. Then you must pour the tamarind paste on the rice and mix it. When mixing ,also pour the oil and grams in it.
