SAFARI

மாணவியின்

ஒரு காட்டுவழிப் பயணம்

I went for camping to Masai Mara with my school mates for 5 days. We went in our school bus. The journey to Masai Mara was exciting! We had lots of fun. We played games and sung songs. It was a happy time. This was the first time I went for camping.
On the way we saw many hills and plains. The weather was cold. After a long and tiring journey, we reached Masai Mara. But we had a 5km drive to the camp site. We decided to enter the campsite and refresh ourselves. On the way, we saw giraffes and Zebras. The sun was now blazing and there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. As soon as we reached there, the luggage was brought down. We took our luggage and walked towards the tents. We grouped ourselves and chose the appropriate tents. My two friends and me dragged our luggage towards our tent and arranged the sleeping bag. By that time, it was already getting dark. We went outside and started exploring. We found the place to be interesting and exciting. There was a short dinner after which we played with torches and enjoyed time. I didn’t miss my parents at all. It was at night when I thought of them. Of course I had already informed them when I had arrived at Masai Mara Campsite.

We didn’t sleep that night. We were laughing and talking in our tent till 2:00am when the in charge came and requested us to sleep. We were up by 5:00am. We brushed our teeth and stood in the queue to bath. After a hot bath, we started out.

First we went to Rhino Camp. There we saw numerous Rhinos. We took pictures and headed inwards. As we went inwards, we saw many buffalos. We also saw Elephants and tall giraffes. We took pictures of them and moved to the heart of Masai Mara. There we saw the lion and lioness. We stood here for 15mins taking pictures at different views. Then we also saw a leopard. Then when we were returning, a huge lion crossed our bus. We took photos again. It was the first time I saw a lion closely. It gave me butterflies in my stomach. Then we returned back to our campsite. We hadn’t taken lunch so I was ravenous!!! We reached our campsite by 4:00pm. We had some snacks. We had soda too. Then we took rest.

The next day we set off in another direction. There we saw cheetahs and baboons. We didn’t see many animals on the second day. But astonishingly, we saw a huge Vulture feed on a dear deer. There were some foxes nearby. We went to the last end where we saw some other small animals. We then reached the Kenya – Tanzania border. We stayed there for some time and returned back home. This time we returned for lunch. We ate lunch and went to nearby places in the afternoon. We visited the Masai people. We saw their huts. We saw their traditional dance. We entered into their huts. It was pitch dark inside! They were made out of sand and cow dung. We also saw how they started fire without a matchbox. They didn’t even use gas. They just rolled a rod and fire started. It was amazing. They even showed us their market where they sold their jewellery made out of beads.

We returned back to the campsite at about 7:00pm and started cooking dinner. We had noodles for dinner. We went to sleep early because we had to travel back home the next day. The next day, we left out early after a short prayer. On the way back, we had a mechanical breakdown. So the driver stopped the bus near a small grassland. But we weren’t bothered. We played there and waited for another bus. We were an hour late because of that. The other bus was quite small. So, we were packed inside! We reached our school late at around 9:00pm. My dad was waiting for me in his car. Then I went home… The safari was over.
